Events of our campaign
The events of the Dragon S4SD campaign based themselves around the community, our school, and even the internet!
"Strive for a Safer Drive Week""Strive for a Safer Drive Week" ran from February 11th to February 15th, we kicked off the week with an awesome event called "LO Takeover". We then created a fantastic awareness board that was hung up in one of the highest traffic areas of our school; this board informed the student body about the S4SD campaign events, along with facts about buckling up. We continued the week with a video shown to the whole school that explained the importance of driving safe. All throughout the week kids were being informed about events and facts during lunches and on Twitter. We concluded the week with "Safer Drive Day"
"LO Takeover""LO Takeover" was an event that aimed to take over the township of Lake Orion with our campaign. The Dragon Strive for a Safer Drive team set out at the beginning of our campaign and hung up 250+ posters around the city of Lake Orion; in restaurants, shops, hotels, and in every single school that is a part of our district. The poster (shown right) included an interactive QR code that linked anyone who scanned it to our Twitter account.
"Safer Drive Day""Safer Drive Day" was the big finale to "Strive for a Safer Drive Week". As a part of this day the entire school was asked to wear traffic-cone neon yellow. The Dragon Strive for a Safer Drive team ordered custom t-shirts to wear for the days activities. Those activities included the passing out of custom "A Buckle Away" keychains to every single person in the school. It also included a visit from Click-it the Cricket! Throughout the day the entire school showed their support by dressing up and participating in the activities at lunch.
Although "Safer Drive Day" marked the end of "Safer Drive Week" it did not mark the end of the campaign. "S4SD Youth Day" Photo Album |
"S4SD Youth Day"For the "S4SD Youth Day" event the Dragon S4SD team visited a local elementary school with Click-it the Cricket and taught the kids about why they should wear their seat belts. We gave them all S4SD custom coloring books, stickers, and keychains while they were at lunch. Everyone LOVED Click-it the Cricket and they all learned a thing or two about buckling up!

Lake Orion's "A Buckle Away" campaign ran many events over the course of the month, but one of the most important aspects of our campaign was social media. "A Buckle Away" ran a successful Twitter and Instagram account that was constantly promoting safe driving habits. On these platforms we were able to incorporate Ford's Driving Skills for Life and AAA's Keys2Drive program as well as S4SD material. Sending out daily tweets was a very effective way to spread the word and inform people to #BuckleUp and Drive Safe!
